THE LOCKED DOOR

The following story was told to me by another: “Years ago, my father owned several casinos in Las Vegas and we were enormously wealthy. Unfortunately, as a youth, I used money in all the wrong ways and got myself thrown into jail, which eventually led to prison time. I am now in my mid sixties and have spent much of my life in prison.

I am not proud of my mistakes and a couple decades ago, I finally hit bottom. On that occasion, we were stripped down and about 30 of us were locked up in a small, bunker like room, in the middle of nowhere. It was so crowded that it was standing room only. The heat was stifling and we could hardly breathe. We heard the guards drive away and we knew they had left us there to die.

I knew two of our group were Mormons from Idaho and I said to them, ‘So boys, where is your Mormon God now?’ I had no sooner said these words than the locked door suddenly opened and we made our escape.

Now I don’t know what you believe, but, for me, it was an obvious demonstration that God was listening. Over time, I have found out everything I could about the Mormon Church and I try to spread the word as if I was a Mormon missionary. As soon as I am done with this prison stay, I am going to be baptized into the Mormon Church. Meanwhile, I do my best to live like I should.”
