Writing or Translating?

EVER LOOK AT IT THIS WAY?

The following remarks are comments made by Tad R. Callister that were heard on the Mormon Channel thru the program entitled, “Conversations.”  First:  “The Bible is one witness of Jesus Christ; the Book of Mormon is another.  Why is this witness so crucial?  The following illustration may help.  How many straight lines can you draw thru a single point on a piece of paper?  The answer is infinite.

For a moment, let’s suppose that single point represents the Bible.  Let’s say the hundreds of those lines represent different interpretations of the Bible and that each of those interpretations represents a different church.  What happens however, if on that piece of paper there is a second point, representing the Book of Mormon?  How many straight lines could you draw between these two reference points, the Bible & the Book of Mormon?  Only one.  Only one interpretation of Christ’s doctrine survives the testimony of these two witnesses.”

Next, “I remember every day in the (law) office, I would dictate day after day to the secretary & there would be a phone call or I would have to go out for something and when I came back I would always say to her, ‘Where was I?’  Then I would remember Emma, as she was transcribing for Joseph Smith & they would take their break for lunch or whatever it might be and he would come back & he would never say to her, ‘Where was I?’  And I thought, that’s impossible to do that, unless you’re translating it, not writing it.”
