Revelation Ceased?
Why would some men say that prophets and revelation ceased with the crucifixion of Jesus and the death of his Apostles? Could it be that some of other faiths wanted no challenges to their authority?
What if everyone was allowed to receive revelation for the whole Church? Confusion would reign. Either way, Satan has a field day. (Read D&C 43: 1-7)
Joseph Smith said: “But we ask, does it remain for a people who never had faith enough to call down one scrap of revelation from heaven, and for all they have now are indebted to the faith of another people who lived hundreds and thousands of years before them, does it remain for them to say how much God has spoken and how much He has not spoken?
We have what we have, and the Bible contains what it does contain: but to say that God never said anything more to man than is there recorded, would be saying at once that we have at last received a revelation: for it must require one to advance thus far…”
DIVINE DIRECTION
Our lives are full of miracles. We call them coincidences or luck but they are really divine direction. I am an old man and have lived too long to believe otherwise. God’s angels watch over us as we struggle thru life and try to do the right thing. It happened late one night as I drove alone thru what seemed endless miles.
Our grandson was in need of a critical operation and I was in process of trying to help get him there by assisting his mother, our daughter.
This trip required, however, that I make the first part of the journey alone. I had been up early that day and now it was nearly midnight and I had become lost on the interstate trying to go south. In the light of day, with plenty of sleep, it would have been a simple task.
Unfortunately, on rainy streets, feeling the fog of exhaustion settling in, it seemed like a mountain, too difficult to climb. Normally, I would have pulled into a motel for needed rest or even taken a turn into a rest stop but neither was readily available. Further, I was under pressure to make my destination by a particular time.
As I continued driving, I saw an exit up ahead that seemed to be the one I wanted but it put me into a circular route that led me back to where I had been minutes before. Road construction detours added to the confusion and I repeated this maize twice more, leading to more frustration.
It was then that I called out to God in my loneliness and desperation for help in finding my way. My prayer was heartfelt, sincere, begging for aid to get me on the right road.
As I took that exit for the third time, I saw a car pull up on my right, from out of nowhere and stay next to my car so that I could not continue bearing right as I had done before. I slowed down to let him past and then speeded up to get ahead of him, but it was to no avail.
He stayed directly parallel with me until I was forced to take the left side of the exit that split in two. At first, I thought that this had put me on the wrong path, but I quickly discovered, that instead, I was now on the correct road, going the right direction and heading south as I had attempted twice before.
God had answered my prayer and I was soon well on my way to my destination and the needed rest for which I had yearned. I was so thankful and I told Him so as I prayed to Him again. He answers my prayers and He will answer yours.
